I feel for you guys who have been jacked but I don't understand why people are changing their password. A strong password is no defence if you are (inadvertently) submitting it to a hacker. Once he knows the password he can just change it. Or am I missing something?

Hey buscuit. The reason we change pass is becasue the keylogger steals your password when you enter it into the password box when you login. If you get rid of the virus, and then change your pass, the old one will no longer work for the wanker that stole it xD But you must be quick Razz

woohoo!! got my account back!!!

my hold up was because the email I submitted was a different address than was registered on the steam account, but within a short while of me pestering them from both addresses, they could see it was the same person and as I also knew the original email the account was set up with in the first place, it is now reset and .....

What I dont understand is how mine got stolen in the first place as I never entered my pass as my pc is left on day and night. i used hammer at 7 am that morning and left steam loged in as usual so my acount was in use by me when it was stolen so it must be possible to log your self in on another pc from another location which would log your self out from the place that you are loged in at Sad

. Also i never actualy downloaded anything or entered my pass that day all i did was look at the page that the link took me to and i didnt think it looked cosha so i closed it again GRRRRR.

I RE ITERATE I NEVER ENTERED MY LOGIN DETAILS . My acount was loged in for several days with no break.

the e-mail i sed to set up my steam account no longer works. I updated my contact e-mail a loooooong time ago to the one that actually works, but the e-mail that steam sent with my log-in info didn't get there....what will I do?! oh noes!!!!

DIET if you get hacked you simply wont be able to log into your acount as the little B--ST--D will have chainged your pass.

I hope that this gets round the entire comunity fast so that as few of us have to suffer this litttle ASSHOLE and his acount steeling as possible.

I feel sorry for all of you guys, every time i download a malicious file, my anti-virus picks it up half way through the download somehow, so, so far i have not been tricked by this stuff.
Whats going round is probably a variant of the MSN Virus.
The MSN Virus is an ZIP file that is randomly sent to you by one of your contacts (Without their knowledge) and when you accept the file (Which is usually named PICTURE) it will then give you a virus that keylogs your MSN details and slows your PC down.
These are known things that the simillar viruses are transmitted on:
Xfire (not so common)
MSN Messenger (very common so be careful what you accept)
Steam Chat (New to me ive never had this message yet)

On MSN however you can set your anti-virus to scan the file before it is saved on to your hard drive, as for steam and Xfire, there is no option for you anti-virus to do this.

it Came to my attention that On lots of forums my account was descussed as the main sender if the virus!
I got messages from eS'|Seed,[BS]TOXIC and some other peeps. Thay say that my account was discussed on thayr forum. It even got on the CU forum O_o

Arcane,i have a good anti-vir But this time it didnt do a thing for somereason....NOD32 rarely gets viruses in to the pc Twisted Evil

good that i installed RunReg and ran a test as soon as it was possible Smile

Yea I tried to get on steam, but it said that I couldn't and at first I thought it was a steam error
So I tried again, but no success
So i tried to restart my password, but I forgot my secret question, but then I remembered it like 2 minutes after I posted this and now I have my account.
