then you have a common problem, the way between the server and your provider has a bottleneck or something like that I think. I´m not sure if you can do something about it. I had this too on some servers but after I changed my provider it was gone.

I've got the same problem only on tsgk servers dude. The other servers don't choke as much lol

Choke problem, client at 99% of the case.
If only 1 player do not have chokes at a public server, it is enough to considere that the choke is client related (if server related then all the clients would have choke without execption which is not the case at TSGK).

Nothing if you don't provide a minimum of information, like at least your connection rate.

Juyt try it , your choke should vanish when cl_updaterate and rate are low enough. And sometimes it's not your computer / the connection causing the choke, it's simply the server having a performance problem. Try with different servers.
And add some binds to your config to switch quickly between working network configs for you.

BTW : if anyone could help me with my pc also, it would make me very happy. I have 0 choke, 30 ping, normal rates, everything OK but still half of the time my game lags...... I've asked about everyone on my friends list but nobody knows x_X

Which maps, how many FPS do you have on these maps?

Concerning servers having poor performance, i would say some people forget that there is not hundred of Full 16 slots servers, maybe 30/1000.
It is obvious that on a full server you may have chokes + at killbox maps, simply because:
1. If your computer isn't good enough you can't handle all the action there (models, decals), all in a single room.
2. More players, more data to handle by the client as by the server.

Switching from a full 16 slots server to a like 5 players server and your choke will disapear, obvisouly, this is not the server, this is the client not able to handle a full server connection (then reduce your cl_ var and up your rate).

This server was full and away from my location, i couldn't repeat it more, if server side, then all clients are affected.

Reducing cl_ var tweak your ping, if it would be server related then your ping will still the same, reduce FPS, you don't need 200 FPS, 80 is enough.
Rise your rate to 20 000, 25 000 and 30 000 if your connection allow you to do so, and this specialy if there is a lot of players on the server.

Running 66/66 on a public server is useless.
Running 100/100 on a tickrate 66 server is ultra lame.

Leave defaut 30/20 if you don't know what you are doing and change your rate to 20 000 or 30 000 for a full server.

Can I play better on US servers if I change those parameters? EU servers work fine with default. if yes, what should I set them to?

why is it that default settings are not good for everyone? why would someone need more data to play without choke whereas others can play normally with default settings? I understand that setting it lower for slow connections may be useful, but higher?

It is maintly all about your internet connection (and a part your computer conf) and the possiblity that your ISP offert (like interleave modification etc etc).
In global the Qualtry of Service that your ISP can provide (dependant of the infrastructure used by this ISP).
US servers will be easy to reach (atlantic side) for UK/France/Netherlands, because those countries have a direct peer with the US WAN.
If there is too much nodes between you and the US servers, then you may just avoid them because your ping will be too high and your rate will be low.

On my exemple, i could be able to play on a full US Server located at NY with a ping of 110ms and 4 - 5 choke.
My cl_ var was 30/20 with a rate of 30000.
My DSL connection allow me to activate fastpath (no data correction), which lower my ping, the speed of this connection is 25Mb/1Mb per seconds.
Even if my choke were low, my latency would still a pain to enjoy a game.

If you plan to play at a server far from your location (without abusing the distance), like US east coast, you will down your cl_ var to 30/20 and rise your rate to 30000 (25000 if you can't handle such amount), if you get something under 20 chokes, that probably the best you can get, if not your connection will not allow you to play that far from your location.
The more there will be players on this server, the more your ping and your chokes will rise, the kind of map would affect the result either.
Avoid full servers distant to your location for a better gameplay.

I've always run default, but changing from 30/20 20000 to 30/20 30000 really made the difference for me, but I can tell it's my PC causing lag.

While hopping through the server collecting weapons my crosshair moves smoothly but as soon as I fight somebody (especially close range) that's when it hits me, I flick my mouse to shoot my magnum out of routine so it's easy to notice the difference but the cl_showfps gives me the numbers and once the effects kick in (explosions mostly) it drops like 40+fps.

But I can tell when I'm playing someone with 66/66 or 100/100 cause my magnum just wont touch them no matter how well I aim or how good my fps is yes it is ultra lame.

its possible for me to play on us servers but its hard with physics and orbs, they are a lot harder to catch because its like frames are missing of its flight to me.

how do I find out what parameters are currently set?

Edit hl2mp/cfg/config.cfg and look at the bottom.
Or type the cvar in the console without the value.

It was cl_updaterate i set it from 60 to 20 and the choke was gone Smile

no matter what, always set cmdrate and updaterate the same values, otherwise it will be unstable

I saw it today, its so bad my skill goes down to the drain when it starts. Osiris saw it too, maybe you could reduce the ammount of players on the server?

Unfortunatly i didn't lag at the time i was here neither having chokes.

when you were there there was some minimal lag, it got stronger though on the end. but before there was unplayable lag and many complained about it.

it wasnt Choke for me,I think its something with the server because i had 0-2 choke all the time and even tho latency was 40 t he ping was from 78-90 Ms Confused May be its the last Update ?

Its only happening to me since the update. I play with a ping of about 30, choke mainly low and fps about 40 when in close action. Last night playing about 7.30, make that 20.30 cest the game was running well till the server got nearly full. The game slowed right down but my fps,lag and choke hardly altered. Started getting the motion sickness feeling from the jump picture and left Crying or Very sad

Is there a way of kicking the players with high ping when the server is full
so it speeds up the game for us Question

Type net_graph 3 in your console will shows loss and chokes.

The RAM of this server has been flushed, all should be fine now.
Also the original post of this topic has absolutly no relation with the Lag that occur since 2 days on this server, as it was client related, and the second problem was apparently server memory leak related.
