What files do I transfer? |
|
I got myself a new computer. And I'm determined to set it up within a reasonable timeframe (normally it takes me ages to do technical things).
I'm wondering how do I put on HL2DM. I presume I use the dvd again and wait for steam to update it (will take days ).
But what files should I try and carry over. I'll bring my maps but what else. Should I try and carry across everything in my username folder?
Even better - is there a simple way of hooking the two PCs up and transfer files between them?
Any help appreciated - I'm scared.

see these .gcf files? C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps
those are shared files .. you can copy those..
if It were Me I would copy over the .gcf files.
the sounds folder from hl2dm
the materials folder from hl2dm
and the maps folder from hl2dm
and I would burn 2 dvdr's
ALSO ,.. i remember you having a good connection.. I don't think steam will take that long to update. so if you don't mind starting the updating and going for a walk in that case I would only really be concerned about the map folder and the sounds folder.. stuff yeah.

Thanks.
But my PC's so old I cant burn a DVD. Maybe my memory stick (1GB) might do it.
Will that cover things like friends, keyboard settings etc?

save the GCF on a rar. file, with maximun compression
10GB of game cache files will do about 3GB compressed

Defo install CD first and then do the updates, mine took years to DL (Well 3 hours but still wayyy too long) also once you got all your settings set back up make a backup of your CFG folder (set everything read only or the game will write over them I think) so you never have to fuck about with your settings again, its a pain in da ass.
