hey all

after having played hours and hours of HL2DM i'm thinking now that a major issue is about keyboard configuration.

I'd like to know what best players use to play that fast and good!

mine is as following:

moves - arrows
shoot - mouse 1
jump - mouse 2
alternative shoot - shift
crouch - ctrl
stunstick - 1 (on the numeric pad)
weapon change - mouse wheel
use - end
reload - space
sprint - 0 (on the numeric pad)

i bet it can be optimized. i tried to get grav gun on a key but i'm so used to switch with mouse wheel that i quickly gave up any changes!!!

so what's yours guys?

w - forward
s- back
d- strafe right
a- strafe left

Shift is speed burst
Ctrl is duck
Space is jump

g - grav
r - reload
f - flashlight
q - last weapon

mouse 1 fires. and mouse2 does its thing..

never htough about wheel pushin caryl.. might have to make that stick because i get lost trying to select 1 to grab it, i just use mouse wheel for hte most part..

i press 5 alot for grenades though.. its probably right behind grav gun as most used weapon for me..

bind "CTRL" "+speed"
bind "SHIFT" "+duck"

These are my configs:

Up: w
Left: a
Right: d
Down: s
Jump: Space
Crouch: Ctrl
Sprint: Shift
Shoot: Mouse 1
Second shoot: Mouse 2
Change to gravgun: Q
Reload: R
Use: E
Grenade: 3

I can tell a lot of you guys change your weapons by using different keys on the keyboard ... I change weapon by scrolling up and down on my mouse. It gets a bit tricky from time to time when you're in battle and need a specific weapon, and you have to scroll your way there. But I'm OK. Razz

im the same way soup.. i always scrolled using the mouse, but then for a bit my optical went out and I didn't get to the store for a week or so and had to use my old one which was optical but didn't have a scroll mouse so I had to get use to pressing 1-5 for weapons.. now its all I use, is the 1-5 since I am so use to it

Mine are almost the same as the default ones, except I switched the gravgun and flashlight keys around (since I use the gravgun way more often than the flashlight), and zoom is binded to mouse4.

s-back
w-foward
d-right
f- gernade
g- gravity gun
1- stunstick
mouse wheel up - shotgun
mouse wheel down/3- SMG
(mouse wheel in- RPG...but who needs that?)
t - pulse rifle
h-slams
r- reload
x- pistol
c- 357
q - crossbow

I use quickswitch and i turn autopickup off.

its actually extremely useful, like with f and g so close, it makes throwing gernades a snap, i keep t as the pulse rifle because i just hit it when i need to reload the SMG, and if i've got a pulse rifle, i just hit t, and vice versa. i dont use slams much, and idk, it just works well for me.

i cant use the keyboard i find it very tricky,so i use my trusty xbox controller instead this is how i set it up.i found a usb connector that plugs on the end of my controller and then i came across a program called total game control 3.5 which allows you to program certain key presses to xbox controller buttons, this is how ive set my configuration up.

left joystick-forwad,backward,left and right straife
click left joystick-jump
left trigger-sprint
d pad is as follows:-
up-357
down-gravgun
left-shotgun
right-grenades
back button-crossbow
start button-use
left on d pad and sprint together gives me stunstick/crowbar
mouse 1-primary fire
mouse 2-secondary fire
mouse wheel up and down is next/previous weapon
click mouse wheel-reload
mouse 4-weapon category 2
mouse 5-crouch

now i know most of you probably think that im mad for using this set up but im fairly new at pc gaming and was a big xbox fan before i discovered gaming on the pc.thats probably the reason i use the controller plus ive got big hands that is why i find it tricky to use the keyboard.i know i cant be quite as quick with some of the moves as some of you can but i can live with that and this method works well with me:D

Never thought they were great for FPSs - especially z axis. Hmmm. Learn something new everyday.

just that you see my newest config above Wink

I couldn´t use the numbers because they were hard to reach for me so I put all the things around my hand. might be useful for the ones who have the same problem. it takes some time to get used to it but then you are very sure about changing and don´t missclick.

the crouch on the mouse is because I couldn´t do the 3 button combination with one hand so I put one in the other hand. this requires a mouse with side button/s of course and not every may be suitable. the mx510/mx518/g5/g7 work fine, I don´t know about others.

Hey whatever works for ya, thats the important thing. It is interesting to see how everyone plays though. My keys are pretty much regular setup. The only thing different I have always done was to bind x as my backpedal key and hit it with my thumb. This is easier for me than s. It also leaves s open for nades. I use c for stick. Smile
