My wife gets up every morning at 4am to go to the gym. Which means she goes to bed at 10pm. Which means from 10pm until 1am, the computer is all mine.

Well, old Zog (Ecosse) has the edge on you slightly. I am 55. Never meant to start playing HL2 deathmatch but I bought the game thinking it was HL2 ( a bit of sneaky packaging). I gave it a try in January and have been playing it ever since. I even upgraded my computer to try to get a bit of an edge on those young whippersnappers out there.
Lets hear it from the old brigade. Perhaps we can start an over 50's league.

Oldest HL2 Deathmatch player? Subject description: General |

Hi DrBreen and Diet H2O. I am taken aback that someone would reply to an old fuddy duddy like me!! I doubt if I am DrBreen's granny unless I was a different sex in a past life. (Which would make BrBreen a bit old too). Let's put this in perspective, I could even be BrBreen's great grandfather!!! I have not met BrBreen on the field of play as far as I can remember and look forward to the event. I have however met Diet H2O fairly recently.
I may also qualify to be the furthest north regular player in the UK being resident in Lerwick Shetland. I know there is at least one guy further north but he does not play that often.
I will have to get my son to show me how to put the picture an smiley faces on the forum. It's a bit dull without them.
Does adding an identifier like (Ecosse) immediately after your playing name make you some sort of clan or has TSGK assumed that because I come from Scotland I must be in a clan?

The stats program usually interprets things in parentheses (and _, [], |, and {}) after the name as being a clan tag. Don't worry about it though, it's just the stats system making the server admins' job a bit easier.
That being said, welcome to the forums . I played a game or two with you the other day (not sure which name I was using though). If it weren't for the beam that points to your killer, I probably wouldn't have been able to find you , you sneaky fuddy duddy.
P.S. It's so nice to have an opportunity to use a word as awesome as fuddy duddy .

Oh man that's so cool dude
(which roughly translates as "that's rather interesting old chap"). You hang out here enough and your discourse takes on a skaterboy feel to it (I think they're called skaterboys, hmmmm).
Anyway - re (Ecosse) - your stats won't show you belonging to a clan unless three people are using the same tag.
The smiley faces are fairly easy to put in - just click on one to the left in the reply form when your cursor reaches a point in the text where you want the smiley
As regards picture - you may mean your stats. When you're logged in go to profile up near the top of the forum page. Go to signature control panel and type this in the field
U RL=http://hl2mp.tsgk.com/index.php?mode=playerinfo&player=319553]
[ img]http://hl2mp.tsgk.com/sig/sig_319553.png[/img]
I have inserted a space between U and R and between [ and i. Remove these spaces (they're in cos otherwise the picture will show up on my post instead of the link).
Then click submit

Ta folks, need a little help, Think I upset Darkiusmaksimus (or however it is spelt) tonight. Accused me of camping. Don't think it's possible to hide in the killbox I play and ambush someone. Is it wrong to crouch down on an exposed platform to make the me a smaller target and take potshots at bouncy people? Used to shoot and am quite good at hitting moving targets. I was on a platform dropping grenades at the time. Just want to have fun and I don't take it seriously. My stats show I use physics as much as the magnum.
Just a rookie trying to get promoted to private.
Anybody in Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland,Greenland, etc playing more than 60 degrees north.

there is an entire clan dedicated towards killing campers called the kill campers clan and I guess some players get upset at other sitting still. Most of the time if a player is sitting still they are easy targets though
I guess the best way to improve your game play though it by shooting and moving at the same time. ... I actually find it easier to shoot people hopping around rather then sitting still now.

It's just a natural progression dude (jaysus - I'm at it again). The truth is I remember when TSGK killboxes had RPGs on them. I was a bit wet behind the ears and used to use it (even on Osi). Then it was removed. I used to sit high with the 357 and camp. Sometimes I even spawnkilled. I was young and foolish and TBH didn't even realise it was regarded as a no no.
But over time you learn new things etc. Just don't over do it on the camping. Darkius is a nice enough chap - so don't worry.

Thanks for the advice - point(s) taken but id does not mean I am not going to shoot a sitting "Crispy Duck" if I see one. I did not think that just sitting in the same place in full view and taking shots at flying players was frowned upon.
I think also that some of the higher ranking players might need reminding about this as well. I am not pointing any fingers 'cause I don't want to make enemies at this early stage.

I've gone out of my way a couple of times to kill a sniper (just a statement). I myself use the crossbow alot. You will find that it is much more affected by your movement than the magnum is. I find it easier to use than the magnum, but that's because I bunni hop and strafe jump constantly (and get complained at.. ). I have this big muscle down the side of my left hand (the ladies love it,) which i refer to as "my deathmatch muscle" because of the hand movement from my jumping patterns.
plus- i have a wicked lefty karate chop now!
As far as tips, use the number keys above wasd to switch weapons, remember to hit q to switch to your previous weapon, and g for the gravgun.
(unless you have edited the defaults)

Thank u for the feedback underscore. Should have been more chatty earlier but I had to move the boat. (someone was wanting to camp in the summer berth). Don't think I am going to play tonight 'cause we consumed the last of last years port and brandy. It was cold you know, actually snowing. Dat's the worst about living 60 degrees north.
Can't seem to get the hang of the crossbow unless I am stood still and it does not seem to work every time when I am crouching. Was pretty good with the same weapon in Thief and Rhequeum?. I suppose people are still better than A.I.
(Hey don't get me wrong, i'm not a rich s.o.a.b. its just an old wooden boat.)
Tried taking the advice and it only made me play harder so I suppose it must have done some good.
p.s. I used to have a big muscle too - but i'm 55 now.

Thief - now that's a landmark game. That's always been the thing about PC vs Consiles for me. Along comes a PC game that justs makes you want to stick with PC gaming for another few years. Landmark games would include Monkey Island, Civilisation, Thief, GTA and HL2DM.
Hmmm, what is this topic about?
You - ecosse - put up a pic of the Shetland islands for us.

If you want a picture i will try to 2 provide something nice - like dolphins or killer whales - oh sorry killer campers. Could not resist had a session with the advice - not 2 bad. I think I will stick with the old physics from now on unless someone annoys me. Have fun, have to work early - but it means the pub early or an early session.

Hi mark, noticed the time u posted. Was working at the time but the firewall on the works computer won't let me post. You will have to tell you offspring to get on with the job if u want to catch old zog - have enough grand bairns to make a football team + substitutes.
Diet H2O, how could you have omitted the original Doom from your list of landmark games? It spawned Quake, Half Life and others too numerous to count. I just get a touch of nostalgia when I see pixels the size of leggo bricks. When you think that the shareware version of chapter one came on 2 1.44mb floppy disks and run under DOS on a 8bit machine ..................
Retro gaming is a whole subject in itself.

Lol - I forgot. I remember getting it with some pc gamer or something mag. Loaded it up and said WTF! This is free?! It was kind of scarey too for its day. Had trouble sleeping at night as I kept visualising myself running down corridors. Without doom no FPS.

Doom was indeed amazing, but I cannot play the new Doom. It seems unappealing. Eventually i will break down and buy it...
Anyone remember Lords of conquest? 4 color turn based DOS strategy game?
-sigh-
I still remember my ANSI codes.

ahh. I will never forget good old DOS.

There are people out there who remember DOS!!!! Still use a WIN98 DOS start up disk when I install systems and set up new hard drives. Bit old fashioned, like me, but it works every time. It's also good for getting rid of unwanted piles, ops, I mean files that XP does not want to delete for some peculiar reason. Good for getting rid of viruses - the low life that write them seem to forget about the back door.
Can any of you still program? I don't mean visual basic or C+ but real programming language like algol, fortran, machine code or basic basic?
Machine code is where gaming started on the likes of th specy 48 where you had to write a whole game in about 35k.
And by the way - thank you for the nice gesture DarkiusMaximus.

Well I used to programme Basic on the old C64. Did Pascal, C etc in college and a bit of MASM. Worked for a few year as a COBOL programmer too. But all that's long over.
Anyways - do you ever talk in game, Zog. Couldn't get a word out of you

Hi Diet H2O Yes I am aware that you can converse on line but I hardly ever notice what being said because I am too busy concentration on staying in one piece. I will exchange greetings the next time we play in the same match.
In the meantime, I'm off to the pub. Might try again when I get back in an couple of hours or so. I only need 300 odd kills to get promoted so it should happen some time this weekend.
Yes, I did algol, fortran, pascal, basic and machine code but I got booted out of Uni long before visual basic was invented. Have you played system shock 2? It's an interesting twist on FPS.
