International Music Subject description: What do you like?
Okay, I know TranSGeniK has something to do with techno and HLDM2, but I myself am a metal head. I went to Ozzfest august of 2006 and saw/heard some foreign bands that i liked. Here's is my short list so far.
-Dimmu Borgir
-Cradle of Filth
-Lacuna Coil
-Dragon Force
Give me names to search, no American music please.
Edit: actually, just say what you like. _________________

Some bands and the albums that I would recommend. There's a lot of power metal here, so proceed with caution .
Blind Guardian - Imaginations from the Other Side, Somewhere far Beyond, Nightfall in Middle-Earth - Some of the best damn power metal you will ever hear.
Iron Maiden - Anything Powerslave and earlier (Killers and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son are my favorites) and a live recording of Fear of the Dark - It's Maiden, that's all I should have to say .
Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding. Tattooed Millionaire is awesome too (my personal favorite) but it's more rock than metal.
Korpiklaani - Finnish folk metal - freaking awesome
Finntroll - see Korpiklaani
Nightwish - Angels Fall First, Oceanborn, Wishmaster
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys parts 1 and 2 - similar to Iron Maiden, but less serious
Mercyful Fate - Melissa, Don't Break the Oath - Some awesome guitar work here and King Diamond's signature vocals (plenty of people don't like King's vocals, though).
Wuthering Heights - Far from the Madding Crowd (only album I've heard of theirs). Power/Folk metal - not the most original thing in the world, but will work if you dig folk metal.
Rhapsody - Dawn of Victory, Symphony of the Enchanted Lands - epitomizes all that people love and hate about power metal, and is one of the best symphonic power metal bands out there. Proceed with caution on this one...many people who don't dig power metal consider it the ass-end of metal.
Strapping Young Lad - City - this band is rather tongue-in-cheek, angry, and freaking hilarious. Should be able to induce headbanging if you have a head with which to bang. Technically not American, but the recommendation is a stretch, as they are from Canadia _________________ Aw crap I think I lost a contact. BRB, gotta put my eyes back in. death metal eh? I LOVE DEATH METAL! Here are some bands for ya
Decapitated - get the album Organic Hallucinosis - these dudes have been revolutionizing extreme metal since they were 15 and they will blow your mind. The negation is another good one from Decap.
Beneath the Massacre - get any CD you can get your hands on - you simply won't believe the speed at which these guys play. The drummer is one of the few to master the "gravity blast" which delivers ultimate brutality. This band is the tightest band I've ever heard.
Crowpath - get red on chrome - may be a little too hardcore for your taste but myspace em at least you may like them.
Cryptopsy - anything they've put out, newer is better production wise but not necessarily musically better - The drummer of this band is a GOD.
Gorelord - get Zombie Suicide part 666 - Frediablo's solo project (Frediablo was in wurdulak), oh yeah check out wurdulak.
Leng Tch'e -get The Process Of Elimination - BROOOOOOTAL
Misery Index - get Discordia - Brootal azz metal
Neuraxis - Trilateral Progression - more brootal azz metal
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked - old skoolerz, kinda go Egyptian from time to time which can be...interesting? Good solid death metal especially good for someone new to the genre.
Skinless - Trample the weak, hurdle the dead - these guys make great metal which definitely leads to violence of epic proportions
Yyrkoon - get Unhealthy Opera, awesome.
There may be some American bands in there but there are some really great American metal bands, even in the Death Metal arena. I think the Swedes have the US beaten but don't be turned off by American metal bands just because they are from America. That being said here are some more American metal bands that I think you'd enjoy:
ISIS - depending on what you like on the scale of metal one side being heaviness and the other gloominess should determine what ISIS CD you choose. If you like heaviness aim toward the early releases mosquito control, red sea, and celestial. If you like gloominess any release thereafter - Oceanic, Panopticon, In The Absence Of Truth. A good medium, and my personal favorite, is Celestial.
If you like ISIS, get a Pelican CD - very similar styles.
If you are a musician you should pick up a dillinger escape plan album. I won't say for sure that you'll like it but I can assure you that you will be thoroughly impressed by the musicianship of these guys. They are all classically trained and push the limits of music. The drummer is my favorite drummer of all time blending every style that you can think of. Note - DO NOT PICK UP THE EP CALLED Plagiarism unless you want to hear them cover Justin Timberlake, NIN, massive attack, and soundgarden.
If you like shear craziness check out Pig Destroyer, just don't start with the album painter of dead girls. _________________ IF 3 = KILL, I'D BE THE 1,2,3,4 FUN! - CHRIS CARNAGE

Psychotic Waltz is a pretty good band from the U.S. More rock than metal, but really cool. They're now defunct, but they're one of the (very) few good bands to come out of CA in the mid 80's.
Symphony X - One of the best metal bands out there. These guys are ueber talented, write kick ass music, and I love the lyrical themes of their music. Just avoid the self-titled. If you haven't heard them yet and you dig metal, you must listen to these guys.
