Yeah, I'm not worried about dedicated servers yet. I am still a linux n00b, but i know how to get my graphics drivers and the basics. I though about Xandros...

I'm just tired of Windows i guess. I'm not to excited about Vista, but I feel like I need to get off of XP.

I'll be sure to post screenshots.

Oh, also, I'm looking to learn Python. any clues?

Thanks a bunch!
I had heard about Wine and wanted to avoid it, but if it works, I will definitely look into it.

As far as Ubuntu goes, I'll get right on it.

Just an update: FORGET IT.

I got wine going after my 3rd reformat. Then i had to hunt down a font! After that, i'd tell the games to install, and wine would crash!

NONSTOPHEADACHE

I went back to windows because i am familiar with it. Neutral

I´m going to have a dual boot soon with ubuntu and xp. if hl2 works in linux, I´ll keep it. if not then I´ll revert back to windows. because having to change over from os to os just to play hl2dm is not worth it.

Be very careful. If you lose the linux partition, GRUB wont see the windows partition either. There is almost no hope for recovery after that. Microsoft cant overwrite GRUB.

Easy to install, hell to undo.

That seems much safer. Just be careful which drive you format. Smile

The trick with dual-boots is to make sure that XP is the 1st partition on the 1st drive. Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst:
#title Windows 95/98/NT/2000
# root (hd0,0)
# makeactive
# chainloader +1
#
# title Linux
# root (hd0,1)
# kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2

I found it amusing to change the 1st entry to:
title Resource Eating Crap

...until my wife made me change it back Confused Confused Confused
