skrew ball (in hellhounds clan) has been having a similar problem from what i understand!
It sound like a local problem (they live quite close... i think ) maybe a powercut in ur area or upgrading communication links!

I have already have this prob one time after an update if i remember.
I have try all : activate fastpath from my provider, reinstall HL2DM, change driver of my mouse, defrag HL cache ... Nothing works, only the next update solved my prob.

I remember having this problem when I reinstalled HL2 once. I did a little searchin and found out that I had the wrong settings in the Steam client. So open the Steam fo to settings and go to Internet and make sure you have the right speed of your connection in there. That was the problem for me maybe you have the same thing who knows.

We live very close.. 5 minute walk..
Eeenyway i think i fixed the problem.. Something messed up in my console and changed my rates... (dunno what).. i returned the settings to default and now everything is working fine.. except the high ping that reaches 700 today with this shitty isp..
Life is short, kill your isp
